Ban RSS says Akal Takht

By Syed Rifaquat Ali

The chief priest of Akal Takht, Giani Harpreet Singh, told reporters in Amritsar last week that " the RSS should be banned. The remarks by RSS leaders are not in the interest of the nation. It would hurt and draw a new line of division in the country and destroy it."

The president of Srimani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Gobind Singh Longowal, too lambasted the Bhartiya Janta Party, which follows the RSS diktat, when he said to mediamen "the constitution gave all its citizens religious freedom.

However, Mr Mohan Bhagwat (RSS chief) was intentionally trying to impose the 'Hindu Rashtra' agenda by ignoring it." Mohan Bhagwat's rhetoric against the minorities is being taken seriously by the Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others, and the like-minded people too and the BJP government at the Centre must take cognisance of it before things develop in anarchy.

A well-educated Sikh told this correspondent that Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has called for referendum in 2020 which the central government may not allow.

But if there is a referendum in Punjab, the SHJ will come out triumphantly since no Sikh wants to stay with India.

This correspondent had talked to a large number of Sikhs and they are all in favour of independent Punjab and not under the yoke of Indian government.

There is a strong speculation among the Sikhs that any attempt by the Indian government to throttle the referendum exercise will prompt the Sikhs in the Indian army to revolt. And if it so happens, there will be chaos all over.

The Sikhs will have the backing of 180 million Muslims who are repeatedly targeted by the RSS goons in one form or the other and are totally fed up by the BJP government.

It is a sad commentary on the part of prime minister Narendra Modi who is  blind to a situation which is developing dangerously and may destroy the country.

In a Howdy-Modi rally in Houston recently, Modi said in half a dozen Indian languages that "everything is fine" in India.

The fact is that India is going through an unprecedented economic crisis and people are either dying of hunger or victims of mal-nutrition.

According to a recent Global Hunger Index (GHI), India is placed 102 in the Index and is so lowly-placed that even countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan are better off.

BJP's  own party man Dr.Subramanian Swamy, who was professor of Economics at Harvard, admits that the Indian economy is in doldrums.

Leading Indian economist Dr.Manmohan Singh says that the Indian economy is in a bad shape today due
to faulty planning. Economy apart, crimes are rampant in India. South China Morning Post correspondent Vasudevan Sridharan says " religion-based crimes have risen sharply in India."

With such a bleak picture of India in sight, Modi is still unmoved and as a braggart keeps reiterating that "everything is fine." What a way to run a country like India!
